Even when you are a Speech and Language Therapist of 20 years’ experience there are always things to learn and even more so when you are starting something new. It was with this in mind that I signed up for my first networking session for independent practitioners.
It was over in Maldon, so a bit of a journey, but well worth the effort of getting there after a full day at work. Set up by an independent Speech and Language Therapist based in Maldon it is a group that meets quarterly and is there to aid practitioners who don’t have the support that being part of a wider team brings.
There were 8 of us there on this occasion and some of the topics we covered were Evidence Based Practice (EBP) and reporting back from the ASLTIP conference. It was great to have the opportunity to discuss issues such as lone working and complex cases with therapists who have been working independently for a lot longer than me.
